Mary Chang, ABOC, NCLE
Many are familiar with her dedication to eyecare, but few know the personal journey that drives it. Growing up in Taiwan, she endured the challenges of measles and experienced multiple misdiagnoses. After consulting with numerous ophthalmologists, she finally found the right one and was able to restore proper vision. Unfortunately, one of her eyes remained permanently blind due to an underdeveloped nerve, and the other was left with high myopia. This experience has deeply influenced her strong advocacy for early detection, particularly in children. It also drives her commitment to working closely with corneal disease patients, ensuring they receive the comprehensive care they need.
Contact Lens Fitter
Specializes in Scleral lenses and corneal disease
Mary brings over 30 years of optometry experience to the table, with a career that began in Taiwan. For the past 20 years, she’s been a key player at Kaiser, where she excels in contact lens fitting and specializes in managing ocular diseases and keratoconus.
Her passion for optometry goes beyond the office—Mary frequently gives engaging lectures and talks at local churches, spreading the word about eye health and making a difference in her community.
Hi from Mary!
As a lifelong student in eyecare and optometry, I’ve found my calling working with scleral lenses to be especially rewarding. There’s nothing quite like seeing the joy on my patients’ faces when they experience clear vision for the first time after struggling with it for most of their lives.
When I’m not in the office, you might catch me spending time with my new grandson, gardening, or hanging out at the office on Saturdays, where I love chatting with patients and sharing fresh fruit from my garden.
Fun fact: I’m Esther’s mom, our family is in the third generation of eyecare practitioners, and one of my brother-in-law’s was actually my optometry professor back in Taiwan!
